House bill 19 falls under the branch of Department of Education, it is their responsibility to require that the schools in Georgia comply with rules and requirements set forth by the state laws. The bill has been a house hopper in this Georgia General Assembly session. This bill stated off has as senate bill and ended up in the house as bill 19. This bill has been read twice on January 31, 2013 and February 2, 2013, the activity on the bill died here. This bill has been brought forth to the State in earlier sessions has an amendment to a preexisting bill and was not passed either time. Dropout Deterrent Act would support services and prevention that the Department of Education already has in place. This bill will assist with new formula in calculating dropout data, and school attendance. Students are not to miss more than five days of school which, impacts the students’ academic performance and begins to negatively shape their attitudes on school. This bill will better their chances on wanting an education if their required by law to be in attendance. Educators and parents are the biggest supporters of the amendment of house bill 19. Educators understand that school attendance and student performance are two contributors to the dropout rates.
