Legislative Process
House Bill 19 started as a Senate Bill and moved to the house. Since then the bill was read twice in the Georgia General Assembly on January 31st and February 1st .Lobbying for this bill are parents, community leaders, teachers, and several policy making officials. House bill 19 wants to amend Code Section 20-2-609.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to mandatory education for children between ages six and 16, so as it change the age requirements; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. The bill went the through both chambers because it was a house hopper bill. Some legislators, parents, and teachers lobbied for this bill, but there were several legislators against the bill who thought we should not keep the students in the educational environment if they do not want to be affiliated. This bill did not even make it to the governor’s desk for him to have make a decisions on the bill it died, but I am sure it will be back in next year Georgia General Assembly for the third time.
